Farming the Fringe: Guerrilla Propagation Tactics

Sunday, May 15, 2016, 10:00 am until 1:00 pm
Laughing Dog Farm
This is an intensive, basic skills workshop for those who recognize the timely importance of augmenting our food supply with high-quality, home-grown produce from tiny "backyard" plots, rooftops, passive solar greenhouses, or whatever space is available under a variety of "real-life" conditions.
Inspired by both "permaculture" priciples, dumpster diving, as well as the "guerrilla gardening" movement, farmer Dan will review and demonstrate fundamental, low-tech growing practices, including natural soil building, manure-based composting, "low-till" bed management, sheet mulch (for soil protection and weed control), simple "season extension", as well as other practical tricks, tips and shortcuts for successfully propagating and sharing large numbers of seeds, seedlings, plants and amazing harvests, from marginal spaces, without machinery, capital or fossil fuels...
This class begins with a lecture/discussion followed by a farm/greenhouse tour, a pipe bending demo (for making low tunnel "hoops"), and a Q and A session over home made soup and bread... Suggested donation: $25-$35. No one turned away. Space limited, please RSVP.
